OUR HISTORY
Heritage Higher Institute of Peace and Development Studies (HEHIPEDS) was born out of a vision shaped by lived experiences of conflict, humanitarian crises, and a deep desire to contribute to a more peaceful and prosperous society. Inspired by the realities of the farmer-grazer conflicts in Wum, the Lake Nyos disaster, and other social challenges that have marked Cameroon, the Founding President, Prof. Willibroad Dze-Ngwa, envisioned an institution that would use education as a tool for peacebuilding, development, and social transformation.
After years of experience in teaching, research, and international academic engagement, Prof. Dze-Ngwa recognized the need for an educational system that was more practical, value-based, and responsive to society’s needs. This vision became a collective mission: to provide practical, reliable, high-quality, and affordable education that empowers individuals and transforms communities.
In October 2017, this dream became a reality with the establishment of Heritage Higher Institute of Peace and Development Studies (HEHIPEDS) under the Ministry of Higher Education, alongside the Heritage Vocational Training Institute (HEVOTI). Since its inception, Heritage has remained committed to bridging the gap between theory and practice through hands-on learning, professional training, industry partnerships, and community engagement.
From its humble beginnings, the institution has expanded to offer diverse programs in Engineering and Technology, Business and Management, Health Sciences, Education, Agriculture and Food Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Peace Studies and Humanitarian Action, and other professional fields. Guided by the belief that there can be no meaningful development without peace, Heritage continues to equip students and professionals with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to become leaders, innovators, and agents of positive change.
